Onegaishimasu - Ryokan in Hakone with private bath

Hi All,

We are planning to be in Hakone for 2 nights 8-10 April. We are still looking for accommodation now, bit confused now with all the recommendations. The kind of ryokan we are looking for as follows:

1. Traditional ryokan (semi also possible)

2. Private onsen (en suite)

3. My bf wants to have a view to mount Fuji if possible, so which is better? Hakonemachi/Gora?

4. Our budget is 11.000-12.000 JPY/pax

5. We will be traveling in from Kyoto on the 8th, stopping at Odawara and will continue to Hakone Yumoto by Hakone Tozan line (?) correct me if I am worng. We would prefer to have the ryokan not so far from Hakone Yumoto (not really keen to get to our rykan by means of cable car and ropeway ;-))

Sorry this question must have been asked over and over again ... Thanks in advance for your help!

Domo Arigatou,

Irara

For your budget, I don%26#39;t think you will be able to find either a view of Mt. Fuji OR a private onsen. Hakone is a popular, easy to reach place from Tokyo and so is high-priced. There are many ryokans that offer a %26#39;family%26#39; bath that can be reserved, sometimes free, sometimes for a price, for private use. The family baths are usually pretty small.

Resources to look for such a place include www.japaneseguesthouses.com - I used to use them frequently a few years ago and I found that after I had filled out the initial reservation request, they were open to my questions and special requests and occasionally came up with something that wasn%26#39;t even on their website.

Another resource is www.kanagawa-ryokan.com/english/hakone.htm which has links to ryokans websites.

If you have anyone to help you with Japanese, this is a good website, it has links to ryokans%26#39; websites but also search functions so you can look for private onsen:

http://www.clipit.jp/

they have an english list as well but very limited and without the search functions.

Fujiya Hotel on Lake Ashi might be an appealing option; it%26#39;s very historic and beautiful. Someone in this forum has also recommended Lake Ashi Hotel? Ashi Hotel? I don%26#39;t remember, you might see if you can find it.

For a view of Mt. Fuji you might consider Kawaguchiko also.

Take a look at this...

We stayed there...it was fabulous.

A short walk up the hill from Hakone Yumoto station.

Hi Tracey

I am looking for a night to stay in Hakone for up to 15000 Yen.

When did you stay there, which room did you have and did you take the meal plan? How much did it cost you in Yen, that is if you remember.

The website looks great.

Thanks

Pam

Hi Pam...

We stayed there in April 07. We had the type 2 with outdoor bath. We took the breakfast and dinner. There were 4 of us and the baby. It cost about 9000yen each. Has gone up a bit, but you won%26#39;t be disapointed. When you go to the webpage, click on %26#39;Icinoyu Honkan%26#39; at the top right hand corner. The first pic (with the river) is the room we had.

Will email you with further info.

Tracey

I%26#39;m almost positive you won%26#39;t find something with your requirements at that price (assuming you%26#39;re talking 12K/person?). You want a view, private onsen and traditional. Figure a bunch more, especially for the view.

Spendthrift, thanks for the info (^_^)

Tracy, thanks we are booked now at Ichinoyu Honkan

Route 246, Yeah I know (^_^) was a long shot, we skip the Fujiyama part, and opt for Ichinoyu instead

Thanks Guys

We are booked into Ichinoyu Honkan as well just hope it does not dissappoint with the amount we are paying Yen 22,770, Aus $450.00 for room with ensuite and breakfast for 1 night, our splurge for the trip. Never paid so much for a room for the night in all the years we have travelled including through Europe.

Cheers

Pam

Hi Tracey,

We are booked there at the end of March. Like Pammies, we have never paid so much for accomodation for one night so hope it is worth it.

Their directions about busses are a bit difficult to understand, but you say it is walkable from the Hakone-Yumoto station. About how long? Also, we wanted to leave our luggage some place next morning when we do the Hakone free pass loop. Do you know if Hakone-Yumoto has luggage lockers?

Thanks

You are not paying so much for the room. You are paying a significant amount for the dinner meal plus the room. Please enjoy it and report back here how it was.
