Best Western Shinjuku ASTINA Hotel Tokyo

I saw an earlier post that this hotel is in a red light district. However, we%26#39;re able to stay here using reward points...considering how pricey hotels are in Tokyo, and travelling on a budget, we%26#39;re thinking of staying at this hotel, this being the only hotel in Shinjuku on the list. I%26#39;ve read some really good reviews on the hotel, and most people commented that the location is great. We have two children aged 8 and 10yrs, so we won%26#39;t be staying out late. We%26#39;ll be staying 2 nights.

My question is, when walking to and from the hotel, will it be obvious or visible that this is a red light district (people hanging around the stores/bars, stores in the area, etc...)? Is it a safe area for a family to stay in?

It has become safer after security camera was installed on the street and I sometimes walked through the area when I was in Tokyo. Having said that, I don%26#39;t recommend bringing children to the area. This particular street (Kuyakusho-Dori or Ward Office Street)is lined with pubs and host clubs.

If you look for a hotel in Shinjuku area, it%26#39;s better to find one outside of Kabukicho.

Citadine Shinjuku is a bit away from JR Shinjuku station (It%26#39;s near subway Shinjuku-Gyoen or Shinjuku 3-chome) but has an introductory rate until the end of June.

Thanks JLadyTokyo for your input and recommendations. The Citadine Shinjuku--would that be difficult getting there from the airport on the train, with all our luggages?

If you don%26#39;t mind taking a cab from Shinjuku station, it%26#39;s not so difficult to get Citadines. Suppose you take Narita Express (a direct train from the airport)to JR Shinjuku station, get out of the South exit and a 600-700 yen ride will take you to the hotel.

Citadines is a bit away from the bustling area in Shinjuku but a 5-7 min walk (simply walk along the main avenue in front of the hotel)will take you to the the main shoppoing street.

not to take over the thread mikayla, but we%26#39;re staying here next month.

this isn%26#39;t necesssarily an unsafe area correct? probably just not good for kids?

thanks!

There is no ';unsafe areas'; in Tokyo. The immediate vicinity of the hotel gives a little sleazy feel because of several host clubs and love hotels--nothing to concern about.
