Rooms marked ';smoking';, experiences?

Hi,

Thought about staying at Comfort Hotel Shinsaibashi but only ';smoking'; rooms are available. I was wondering that do these rooms smell badly? This hotel is supposed to have an air conditioning so I%26#39;m thinking that maybe it isn%26#39;t do bad. My friend is a bit hesitant about booking a smoking room. Any experiences of this hotel or any other with smoking rooms? Thanks in advance!

There is no guarantee a smoking room will not smell of smoke, even in Japan. I have had experiences in Japan both ways (smoking room that smelled like one and another one that didn%26#39;t).

Many Japanese are heavy smokers. I can%26#39;t speak to that particular hotel, but I would expect the room to smell of smoke, especially if you%26#39;re sensitve to that.

A/C recirculates, not deodorizes the air. The room may seem ok during day time after cleaned with air freshener but the problem may arise at night time. Even a non-smoking room may give you a problem if you are sensitive as many smokers cheat. You will know by burnt marks, especially in the bathroom.
