Camera Stores Information

I%26#39;ll be in Tokyo for a couple of days in April and want to buy a Canon camera lens. As I%26#39;ll be close to Shinjuku station, which of these stores should I head to (for best prices and services): Sakuraya, Yodobashi or BIC ? Thanks!

Camera Stores Information

All the shops you mention are good - they give points equal to about 5-10% of your purchase good for cash discount on the NEXT purchase. The selection and variety at BIC and Yodobashi are truly mind blowing.

Fujiya Camera in Nakano is the best discount camera shop (new and used) in Tokyo. Its only one stop from Shinjuku on the JR Chuo line.

Sakuraya does not provide web pricing.

Thank%26#39;s everybody!!

Fujiya Camera is located outside the North exit of JR Nakano Station.

What lens are you looking for? If you%26#39;re looking for L glass then it%26#39;s probably going to be a little expensive depending on the exchange rate you%26#39;re getting and the tariff in your home country.

If you do a US price check here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ for the particular glass you are considering and then check the price at BIC or Yodobashi (less 10% for the point card), you will find them a bit expensive in Japan given the strong yen. You can compare US-Japan-HomeCountry, do the exchange rate conversions and get a pretty good idea if you%26#39;re getting a decent deal or not.

Last month I spent quite a bit of time looking at Canon L glass (not to buy, just to compare) at BIC, Yodobashi and Sakuraya and found the prices to be equal at about Y125/USdollar but the rate when I was there was closer to Y88/USdollar. The US has very low tariffs (if any) charged against almost all foreign goods imported into the US.

Very good point, route 246!

I checked the prices for the lens that I want (EF-S 18-200, IS) in the US market (600 US$), Japan (78000 yen = 815US$), UK (529 pounds = 750US$) and here in Brazil (2800 reais = 1100 US$).

The best deal is to buy it in US, but I have no scheduled travel to there (unfortunately...). So even though it is pricier in Japan than in US, it is still a better deal than buying it here in Brazil (1100 US$!!!!)

Cheers!

I see. The import tariffs in Brazil must be pretty high.

It%26#39;s a nice lens for a APS-sensor Canon. It%26#39;s probably the one I would use for walking around because of the length and versatility. Good luck in procuring one at a decent price.
