Okinawa Weather in August

I am planning a trip to Japan in August (the last two weeks of August) I really would have liked to travel down to Okinawa at some point, although I seem to be coming across conflicting information in terms of the Typhoon season.

The last thing I want to do is get stuck in a Typhoon!!!

Can anyone confirm if August would be a bad month to visit,

Thanks for your feedback – much appreciated!

Nic :-)

Hmm, well, the official typhoon season runs June- November, and looking at the weather stats over the last few years most typhoons hit in July, Aug, Sept and Oct.

In short, yes, August is probably not the best time to visit if you dont want to gamble with the possibility of getting stuck.

Other than that I really recommend Okinawa, in particular the smaller islands!

Nic,

Please see

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2117.html

“About thirty typhoons form each year over the Northwest Pacific Ocean, of which typically about seven to eight pass over Okinawa Prefecture, and about three hit the Japanese main islands, especially Kyushu and Shikoku. But any region of Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido can get visited by typhoons. “

“Most typhoons hit Japan between May and October with August and September being the peak season…”

thanks very much for your help guys! Really appreciate it :-)

Hello.

Where can I find weather stats for Okinawa? (Current and past)

WHEN is the best time to visit Okinawa? Warm and least rain ?

Seems like according to stats, no time is ever a GOOD time !

I was once told by dive operator the best time to visit Okinawan islands is June. By that time, rainy season in Okinawa is over and while other islands of Japan suffers from everyday rainy wet season, Okinawa enjoys rainless hot clear days.

Ocean should be clam too.

As for the typhoons, this is just something you have to live with.
