7 days in April

Good morning.

My husband and I are flying into Tokyo on April 4th and out on April 11th with my parents. We have been briefly before and would prefer to be based rather than moving nightly.

From the other posts, the Kansai suggested itinerary sounds great and we will probably follow this. But, as suggested, we were going to train straight to Kyoto and spend 4 nights there - doing day trip from there etc. but cannot find accommodation there.

So, to see %26amp; do all the usual suggested Kansai tourist spots, do people have any suggestions ?? We were thinking of maybe basing ourselves in Osaka instead or even Hiroshima but are not sure about travel times to see the surrounding cities %26amp; sights.

Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated.

Thanks

Good Morning,

You might also try Kobe and Nagoya. Hiroshima is far to call it a ';base'; to Kyoto. But it would make for a good day trip.

Thanks Mac.

Would you suggest Kobe or Nagoya or Osaka to base ourselves in ? We%26#39;ve not been to any of these cities and have heard conflicting reports about Osaka.

Thanks

J

Base yourself in Osaka around Shinosaka Station area. If you have a JR Pass (which you should based on your plans), you can hop onto the bullet train at Shinosaka and be at Kyoto in 15 minutes and Hiroshima in 90 minutes. Be sure to go to Himeji as well.

From Shinosaka, you can take the subway to Umeda area or Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori for more shopping and dining.

Jonellesi,

The only negative about Osaka is it can be a little to industrial for some. I once tried to save money by staying in such a district. The hotel was fine, just that there was nothing to do once getting back to the hotel.

All three areas are good for a base but try finding one near town and transportation.

The north-south stretch between Osaka Station (Umeda subway) and Namba (including Shinsaibashi) aren%26#39;t industrial at all. They are commercial and entertainment districts with lots of shopping and dining.

I grew up in Kansai and I can assure you that Sammy%26#39;s suggestion is a very good one. I usually base myself either in Kyoto or Osaka for sightseeing in Kansai area. Kobe and Nagoya are not really convenient.

Osaka%26#39;s Minami district is one of the biggest entertainment spots in Japan:

I%26#39;m going to Japan for 7 days in April from Korea, we%26#39;re going along the train route with 2 nights in Hiroshima, 1 in Himeji, 1 in Kyoto, 2 in Mt Fuji/Hakone area with a long trip back and a night in Hakata before we go back. I think we decided we might as well stay a night in each city and see how that goes.

This website has been helpful for us to see what the train journey times between cities is, along our itinerary its not more than 1 or 2 hours between places (except Kyoto to Mt Fuji)
