Where to Stay in Biei

We are looking for a place in Biei to stay 3 nights at, so we can explore the Biei-Furano-Shirogane area. To help us narrow down our options, we would appreciate any advice on where in Biei we should stay. Are there any advantages/disadvantages of staying in, for example, the Patchwork Hills area (e.g. Potato no Oka), or the central area (e.g. Pension Pok Rok)?

Patchwork Hills area is best for quiet and access to the flowers/walking/cycling/views.

But your stay place may be very isolated - with NOTHING to do other than eat dinner and look at the view.

If you stay in the town...it%26#39;s a quite little place with toursist arriving at the station and then heading out.All closed down by 7 pm.

Where to Stay in Biei

Hi Amanda thanks for the info. Just wondering about getting around then. Let%26#39;s say we stay at Potato no Oka - would we be able to walk/catch a cab to go into town? And then how easy would it be for us to return to the hostel from town?

Biei and Furano can be done as a 2-day 1-night trip. Two nights should really be the max so I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;d need three nights unless you want to participate in the various experience workshops.

Check with your pension, a lot of them offer rides to the station, from which you can get access to public transport or rent a bicycle.

Thanks Sammyfloyd. We may stay one night at Shirogane Onsen and two in Biei. Yes, hopefully you are right about the pensions offering rides. By the way do you have know if there are luggage storage facilities at Biei JR station?

I have not stored my bags at Biei. However, a quick search online at other forums indicate there are just small lockers at Biei Stations. They were able to store their bags at the JR office for a fee. At the nearby Biei Tourist Office, there were also larger lockers available.
