Whether a JR Pass is worth the money depends on your final itinerary. If you are flying in/out of Tokyo, then if you plan the longest leg, Tokyo/Kyoto roundtrip, within 7 days, then a 7-day JR Pass may be worth the money. Each single trip costs about 13,000 Yen. You can then use the pass for a Narita Express ride back to the airport (worth around 3,000 Yen). That way, you%26#39;d at least breakeven (the cost of the pass is 28,300 Yen). Anything else you get out of it would be savings.

Finally, you most likely don%26#39;t need 3 days for Hakone and Fuji area. They are often a day trip so if you do the two together, a 2 day 1 (onsen ryokan) night should be enough.
