I am trying to map out my itinerary more specifically. My hubby has previewed his meeting agenda so I have a basic idea when he needs to be at his meetings vs free time.
I have my big list of possible sites to see, so it is not a matter of WHAT to see, more more a question of what to see WHEN. I want to make the most of our time.
So, if we have a 2 hour chunk of time, including travel time to and from Keio, what can we see/do?
The week we are there this is how our week will look:
Sunday, we arrive late, so getting to hotel, dinner, sleep.
Monday, we have all day free, will do the bulk of our Tokyo sight seeing here
Tuesday, meetings 8a-1p and 3p-5p (includes his travel time)
Wednesday, meetings 8a-1p and 3p-6p (includes his travel time)
Thursday, meetings noon-3:30p and then our evening is spent with the group at a banquet and excursion
Friday, meetings 10a-2p and then group dinner around 6p
Saturday, totally free all day, plan to go to Kamakura, Kyoto or some other place, still need to decide this one.
Sunday we head home.
So as you can see, I need to know what we can see/do in a 2 hour chunk of time so I can schedule those things for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Then I will know what we need to try to see on Monday. I want a basic plan to follow, so we don%26#39;t waste time trying to figure things out once we are there.
Thank you!
What can I do in 2 hours from Keio hotel?
Honestly for your Saturday plan, doing a day trip to Kyoto then going back to Tokyo for a trip out the next day is tiring, expensive and time consuming. I would do a trip to Hakone or Nikko, somewhere close to Tokyo and easily accessible from Shinjuku (Hakone).
There%26#39;s alot of varity of plans you can do, for Monday, you can go to Asakusa visit Sensoji temple visit the area, then take a waterbus down the sumida river to Odaiba and spend time on Odaiba, Odaiba is nice at anytime of the day, spectacular view of Tokyo at night.
Tuesday-2 hour free block, why not visit the Shinjuku area, right behind the Keio Plaza hotel is the Tokyo Metropolitan Office buildings which has free observation towers.
Wednesday, 2 hour block, head over 2 stops to harajuku you can either visit Meiji Shrine or explore the boutique stores in the area. Unfortunatley you won%26#39;t be able to see Harajuku on a sunday, the day its the most livelist. Meiji Shrine is nice.
Friday- Near by Shibuya one stop after Harajuku, again lots of shopping, entertainment famous sights.
What can I do in 2 hours from Keio hotel?
You can go down to the basement of both Keio and Odakyu department stores and check out their ';food floors.'; You could get some deli take-outs, too!
Or stand in line at Crispy Creme out by the South exit of Shinjuku station. That%26#39;ll take an hour! lol
Be sure to walk around the Central exit side of the station (way on the other side of your hotel). It%26#39;s bustling with people and cute shops. Isetan department store is quite nice, and you could spend an entire day, just window shopping!
Yodobashi Camera is literally on your doorstep if you%26#39;re looking for cameras and other electronic things.
Remember that it%26#39;ll take time to walk back and forth. Give yourself at least 10 minutes from the train station to your hotel.
No, don%26#39;t go to Kyoto for a day. Kamakura is much nicer and closer, especially if you like walking. You can get off at Kita-Kamakura station and make a big loop on foot, taking in the Big Buddha, Hase Kannon and a couple of other beautiful, quiet temples. It%26#39;ll be a full day%26#39;s trip.
Have fun!
For Saturday, I vote for Kamakura as well. A single day at Kyoto means you will be rushed. The only way I%26#39;d go to Kyoto is if you can catch a train out Friday night after group dinner (but that%26#39;s unlikely) so you can have most of Saturday sightseeing.
Proposal on two-hour blocks:
Sensoji and Nakamise-dori at Asakusa is a good option. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;d have enough time for the waterbus though
Meiji Jingu near Harajuku is a good suggestion as well although you might not have much time for Harajuku itself
Ueno can be a nice little two-hour trip too. It is one of the older neighborhoods of Tokyo. There is an interesting shopping street as well as a park.
