School year break

When exactly do the kids in Japan go back to school? I keep reading that April 1 is the general date, but that%26#39;s a Wednesday. Or maybe that doesn%26#39;t matter. Can someone tell me what exact date the 2009 term starts? Thanks much, we%26#39;re trying to plan a trip to Tokyo Disneyland.

School year break

Hi there -

We were in Tokyo just before school began in 2007, and found the crowds MUCH less intense than you would find in CA.

The park is much more spread out, so while there may be the same number of people, it is nothing like during the summer in CA.

We had a great time. We found it much less expensive than we were expecting. We especially enjoyed the difference in food available at the park. (pumpkin soup, sweet potatoes, pizza)

School year break

In Tokyo area, the new term starts on April 1st for some public schools, but many private schools start on April 6th. Best to avoid Tokyo Disney until April 6th.

The date is what matters, not the day of the week. Schools have been known to start on a Friday!

Mid-week is better for a trip to Disney. Try a Tuesday or Wednesday. Weekends are horrible, as will the last week of vacation. The first day of school is usually just half a day, so the crowds will be back! Rainy days are better than sunny, although June is a bad time because many schools have their excursions to Disney.

The emptiest time for the most popular rides is during the parade.

Go early, stay till late. And wear your walking shoes!

Have fun!
