osaka + tokyo

hi guys..

just curious if its best to buy a jr-railway for 14 days pass..or best to buy individual trips on a sucia card for local trips, and buy ticket from tokyo to osaka when we have to!!

osaka + tokyo

It depends on your entire plan and places you will be visiting within the effective period of the pass. List out your itinerary day-by-day. Add up the individual ticket prices obtained from Hyperdia. Then compare the total cost of the tickets to the cost of the pass. Remember a pass is only valid for 7 days or 14 days.

It is hard to judge without knowing your entire itinerary plans, but simply speaking if you are going from Tokyo area to Osaka area, then a 14 day pass is not going to pay off in that case. A 7 day pass might, otherwise single fare tickets or other discount tickets between tokyo and osaka are better. But again hard to tell without knowing your itinerary plans.

If your trip to Osaka from Tokyo is for 7 days or less, the JR Pass is likely to pay for itself. The one way trip between Tokyo and Osaka by Shinkansen Hikari costs 13,750 yen. Therefore a return trip costs 27,500 yen. Then providing you include a trip to NRT from Tokyo or v.v., the pass pays off.

Otherwise, you might purcahse individual tickets for the Osaka trip.

There is a discounted ticket valid for Shinkansen Nozomi ( you can%26#39;t take this on the JR Pass BTW.) for approx. 13,000 yen each way ( 1,050 yen discount each way). Purcahse it at a ticket resell shop.

Puratto Kodama is also a good deal.

When you head to Tokyo proper from NRT, you might purchase the %26#39;Suica and NEX%26#39; combo for 3,500 yen.
