Eastern Hokkaido

Hi All,

My friend and I will be arriving on 24 Nov about 2pm. We are planning to pick up a car at the airport and tour Eastern Part of Hokkaido and ending in Sapporo (hopefully could return at sapporo instead of airport)

Could some kind souls advise us which car rental company allow us to do it?

Also since we are arriving at 2pm, and we only have 2 hr to drive before it%26#39;s dark, which town should we stay for first nite? We plan to cover Mt DaDaisetsuzan National Park, Sounkyo,Shiretoko, Lake Akan, Kuishro, Otaru, Sapporo. We have 8 nites. Please advise the route we should take. THANK YOU!

Eastern Hokkaido

For car rental companies:

1st choice: Nippon Rent-a-car.

2nd choice: Toyota Rent-a-car.

Both are nice. See their Sapporo branch business hours. When I traveled there in three years ago, I rent from Nippon because I couldn%26#39;t return the car by 8pm. At that travel, I stayed in Sounkyo. This place is typical choice for first night in any tours and individual travels. Also I guess you can drive Furano or Asahikawa at the first night.

Where are you arriving? Really it would be better to fly into one of the east Hokkiado airports - Kushiro - Memanbetsu or even Asahikawa - then you just drive once across Hokkiado...not twice!

End of November early December driving conditions are getting worse and you don%26#39;t want to do a lot of late afternoon driving...

hi vivtaj1605, can i find out from you how did your trip go last nov in eastern hokkaido? Any tips or feedback? did you rent a car with english GPS, was it accurate/helpful? How about hotels/ryokans?

i have just changed my plans yesterday to hokkaido becoz of dates clashes with 1 of my travelling mates.

So our plans is to fly into Memanbetsu Airport late May 09 and drive around since the bus connections seems almost next to impossible to find online.

And we are planning to do Higashimokoto Park in Ozora/Nonky Land Festival for viewing Moss Pink, there is a Higashimokoto Nyurakukan nearby for cheese making experience and Kamiyubetsu for viewing Tulips and in between fit in Shiretoko. And all these in 4 days! Before flying out/JR overnight back to Sapporo.

Hi Amanda, any tips please?

all sounds good - and yes, for 4 days only a car is essentialin this area...once you are there you%26#39;ll pick up local leaflets about attractions - flower parks and things.

thanks for the confirmation %26amp; assurance amanda! appreciate it :)
