7 or 14 days JR pass or 4 days Kansai then 7 days JR Pass

Can you please advice which is best way to get around.

We%26#39;ll be arriving into KIX and stay in Shinosaka 3 nights 2 nights in Kyoto, will be visiting Nara, Hiroshima and Himeji castle should we use the JR pass or the Kansai pass? We%26#39;ll be travelling to Takayama after Kyoto for 1 night then to Tokyo for 6 nights. We%26#39;ll be visiting Nikko, Hakone and Yokohama too. So do you think we should buy the 7day or 14 days JR pass for the whole trip? Just not sure how many days%26#39; pass to buy. Will be flying out from Narita Intl airport.

List out your itinerary day-by-day. Add up the individual ticket prices on Hyperdia. Then compare the total cost of the tickets to the cost of the pass.

Generally speaking, if you can include your Hiroshima roundtrip and the one-way trip from Osaka to Tokyo in 7-days, then the 7-day pass is worth getting. The more long trips you can put into 7-days, the more you save. Therefore, consider seeing Kyoto first before departing for trips to Himeji and Hiroshima. Then go to Tokyo and plan your day trips for the first couple days in Tokyo to save the most money.

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll save money with the 14-day pass.

Thanks Sammyfloyd, I think you have a very good suggestion. Will do that and do some sums on it then work out which pass to buy to save some money. I did take up your advise going to Toyoko Inn in your previous forum. They are really good as far as rates go. I have tried many no one near this rate as far as hotel goes. Thanks for your help. Hi Sammy floyd, The following is being booked and planned for the 13 days in Japan:

Arrived into Osaka (KIX) on 29/3/09 late night

staying in ShinOsaka for 3 nights then to Kyoto for 2 nights. Want to see Hiroshima, Himeji and Nara during those time. Then from Kyoto to Takayama for 1 night on

3/4/09. Fr Takayama to Tokyo fr 4/4/09 till 10/4/09.

Using Tokyo as base will travel to Nikko and Hakone as one day trip each. So planning to buy a 7d JR pass if possible to start using on 1/4/09 thru to 7/4/09 that is to say when I arrived into KIX how shall I get to hotel in Shin-Osaka and the next 2 days in Osaka to move around. Should I see Kyoto first on 30 and 31 March? Then when in Tokyo 8th 9th and 10th April should I buy a suica/pasmo card to move around or just use the metro system? Kind of have an idea but not sure whether it works, thought you might have some thoughts on this. Hopefully dont have to buy 14d JR pass.

All other input would be appreciated too.
