Shinkansen?

Hi,

We would like trying to take the Shinkansen while we are in Tokyo but don%26#39;t know what short trips the Shinkansen can take us to. It doesn%26#39;t have to be a long day trip, even 30 minutes to one hour on the train is fine for us. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Catch it to Odawara and then spend the day doing the Hakone circuit - that way you%26#39;ll experience a whole range of forms of public transport.

Shinkansen?

You can get some ideas here - http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/trips/index.html

Just be sure to note that this ride, even a short one, will cost you quite a bit of money. For example, Shinagawa to Odawara costs 3,450 Yen one-way. By comparison, Hakone Free Pass that gives you roundtrip Tokyo/Hakone and Hakone Loop transport costs just 5,000 Yen for two days.

Thanks all the suggestions!

If you do, make sure to take Nozomi N700 model, the latest, fastest %26amp; quietest shinkansen. You can take free seats by queuing up or reaerve for a little more. Find N700 in the timetables.

It won%26#39;t stop at Odawara, though.

Or go on a double decker going north toward Nagano/Niigata.

In addition, consider that the train will not reach full speed until you%26#39;re well into the country side, for safety reasons. It%26#39;s still a great experience to ride it if you%26#39;ve never been on a high-speed train. The first-class coach is unbelievable.
