Kamakura, Hakone or Nikko day trip from Tokyo?

Kamakura, Hakone or Nikko for a day trip from Tokyo? We want something completely different from Tokyo. We need to be able to leave and return same day.

Thanks!

Kamakura, Hakone or Nikko day trip from Tokyo?

Kamakura: Nice relaxing stroll with some old shrines and temples to see and of course, the buddha. Go to Enoshima afterwards and ride the classic rail and perhaps walk to the beach.

Hakone: Hakone loop offers good scenery and views of Mt. Fuji. This is more of a fun day trip.

Nikko: UNSECO World Heritage site with shrines. Take the bus to Lake Chuzenji afterwards which has a beautiful lake and the nearby Kegon waterfall.

Only you can decide what you like the most.

Kamakura, Hakone or Nikko day trip from Tokyo?

Kamakura is probably closest to Tokyo depending on where you%26#39;re staying. It is nice and has a lot of temples and shrines, and nice scenery, but you may get sick of all the temples. Good if you%26#39;re short of time.

Hakone is beautiful, take the express train if you%26#39;re going there to shorten time spent commuting. The Hakone free-pass is a good way to see the area, and the area has onsens and museums such as the Hakone Open Air Museum. Seeing Fuji from Hakone is a bit hit-and-miss though if that was a factor.

Nikko is great, and Lake Chuzenji and Kegon Falls are well worth visiting - but for a day trip you will need to leave Tokyo very early (I%26#39;d suggest before 7am to make the most of it). It%26#39;s 2+ hours each way. Buses to Lake Chuzenji take 40 mins each way so it can be a lot of travelling for a day trip. It is incredible in Autumn, and the shrines/temples are spectacular.

Hope that helps/
